Resource Allocation and Acquisition

The Define Resources dialog box displays all resources in the document resource model. Each swimlane in a diagram represents a resource in this model. By default, an activity in a swimlane acquires from the represented resource and resources allocated to the represented resource. For example, the “Marketing” swimlane represents the “Marketing” resource. By default, activities in the “Marketing” swimlane acquire resources from the “Marketing” resource or from resources allocated to the “Marketing” resource.

You allocate resources to other resources in the Define Resources dialog box, on the Allocations tab. This means that the resource is available for use by activities in the swimlane that represents that resource.

Organizations and sub-types of organizations can’t perform the work of activities. If acquired by an activity, an organization must have non-organizations (which can perform work) allocated to it.

Resources are acquired by activities using the Properties dialog box - Resources page. Resource assignment defines the behavior of the resource with regard to the transaction that the activity processes.
