Resource behavior determines how the model acts if a resource becomes unavailable, typically for scheduling reasons. It also determines how the model handles a resource that goes into overtime. The resource behavior is defined for non-organization resources only.

A resource’s schedule defines the time the resource is either available for work or out of service. Any time outside of the schedule is considered to be inactive time and is a potential span for overtime. Every resource has its own schedule.

Resource Behavior for a Model

On the Model toolbar, click the tool or, on the Model menu, choose Resources.
In the Define Resources dialog box, select a non-organization resource from the list on the left.
Click the Properties tab, if necessary.
Choose a task below and follow the procedure.

Task	Procedure
Set a resource schedule	Choose a predefined schedule or define a new one, then click OK. For more information on schedules, see Calendars.
Add or modify resource overtime	In the Overtime section, select the Allowed check box, specify the overtime hourly rate, and limit the hours per day the resource can be in overtime.
Add or modify resource availability	In the Availability section, select the Limited check box and set the percentage of time the resource will be available within its schedule. Specify how Time Away is calculated and click OK. For more information, see Define Resources dialog box.

Set a resource schedule

Choose a predefined schedule or define a new one, then click OK.

Add or modify resource overtime

In the Overtime section, select the Allowed check box, specify the overtime hourly rate, and limit the hours per day the resource can be in overtime.

Add or modify resource availability

In the Availability section, select the Limited check box and set the percentage of time the resource will be available within its schedule.

Specify how Time Away is calculated and click OK. For more information, see Define Resources dialog box.

Resource Behavior for an Activity

Double-click a shape and click the Resources page in the Properties dialog box.
If necessary, click the More/Less Resource Details icon (>>) to show all available settings.
Choose a task below and follow the procedure.

Change a resource value class cost allocation	Choose a Value Class cost category from the Value Add drop-down list.
Set resource behavior	Choose a resource behavior from the Affinity drop-down list. For a matrix of possible behaviors, see Resource Behavior Rules.
