Resource Behaviors

Resources have properties that define their behavior, such as hourly rate and availability. For each simulation scenario, you can vary the number, availability, and cost of resources. When you run the simulation, you can view the simulation results to analyze the impact of resources on process cycle time, cost, and other variables.

You can define regular and overtime costs for a resource. Regular use cost can be an hourly rate, a cost per use, or both. Overtime use cost is an hourly rate. You can also specify a maximum number of overtime hours allowed per day. Resource costs are allocated to a value class category for the activity.

The Availability and Time Away settings in the Define Resources dialog box - Properties tab tell the simulator the percentage of time the resource is available, and how long it stays unavailable (usually a distribution) whenever it becomes unavailable. The simulator uses those two pieces of information to determine how often the resource is not available and for how long.
