Manipulate Rows and Columns

Task

Procedure

Select a row or column

Click a row or column selection cell at the far left or top of the sheet.

Add or delete rows or columns

Select a row or column and choose a command on the Sheet menu.

If you add a row below the last row in the sheet, in the Insert Rows dialog box, leave the Add new rows outside existing ranges check box clear to inherit formatting from the selected cell or row on the new row.

Sort rows

  1. Select a column containing rows to sort.

  2. On the Sheet menu, choose Sort Rows, then click the sorting option and click OK.

Move rows and columns

Click and drag a row to move it to another position on the sheet.

In a basic sheet or prioritization matrix, you can click and drag columns to another position on the sheet.
