RACI and Supported By

RACI is an acronym for Responsible, Accountable, Consulted, and Informed. Supported By relationships can be used to describe how equipment or resources play a supporting role in implementation of the object that the shape or diagram represents.

The automatic, swimlane-based RACI can be used to assign one RACI category (e.g. Responsible) to the shape based on the swimlane where it is placed, independent of whether the shape Describes an enterprise object (EO) or not. For manual RACI assignments, it depends upon if you have ‘Described’ an EO with the shape or not:

RACI types and Supported By relationships manually assigned at an activity (shape) display an indicator on the shape. Automatic, swimlane-based RACI does not display an indicator because it is a default condition.

If you do not have an enterprise repository, then you may use the "Where Used" and "Export Table" features, and the displaying of field codes in the diagrams to reference RACI and Supported By assignments for impact analysis. However, if you have a repository with enterprise objects, the iGrafx Platform provides reporting functionality of repository RACI relationships..

The following table provides procedures for some common RACI tasks:

Procedure

Assign RACI types at a shape or diagram

  1. Right-click a shape and choose Properties, or right-click the diagram and choose Diagram Properties.

  2. In the Properties dialog box - RACI page, click the Add button and select a RACI type.

  3. In the Choose Resource dialog box, select a resource.

  4. Click OK to close each dialog box.

Note: You may use automatic, swimlane-based RACI for one of the RACI assignments, and thus may not need to make manual assignments as indicated by the steps above.

Note: If the shape or diagram Describes an Enterprise Object (EO), then the RACI is controlled by the EO. If you want to edit the RACI of the described EO, Jump To the EO, and edit the RACI there if you have permissions to do so.

Change automatic RACI assignment for all activities in a diagram

  1. Right-click the diagram and choose Diagram Properties.

  2. In the Diagram Properties dialog box - RACI page, ensure that the Set Default Swimlane Based RACI for shapes check box is selected and choose another RACI type from the drop-down list.

  3. Click OK.

Turn off automatic RACI for an activity

  1. Double-click an activity.

  2. In the Shape Properties dialog box - RACI page, choose No Swimlane Based RACI for the Swimlane Based RACI setting.

  3. Click OK.

Turn off automatic RACI for a diagram

  1. Right-click the diagram and choose Diagram Properties.

  2. In the Diagram Properties dialog box - RACI page, clear the Set Default Swimlane Based RACI for shapes check box.

  3. Click OK.

Export RACI information

  1. On the Tools menu, choose Export Table.

  2. View fields By Group.

  3. Expand the Enterprise list, and expand the RACI list.

  5. Click the Export button.

For more information about the Export Table feature, see Export Diagrams and Tables.
