Use of Resources

iGrafx automatically creates resources when you define a new swimlane and place an activity in it that acquires a resource. This avoids resource contention between swimlanes, since activities request only the resources associated with their own swimlane.

In a new document, if you define a process with three swimlanes, and an activity in each swimlane that requires a default resource, the document automatically includes three Organization and three Person resources. One Person is allocated to each Organization and each swimlane represents one Organization.

You can specify non-organization resources as Individual (single), Unlimited (infinite), or a finite Pool of identical resources with a count that represents the resource units available from that pool. During simulation, once a resource is in use, no other activity can acquire it.

Resources can be allocated to multiple organizations and required by individual activities. See Add, Rename, and Delete Resources and Resource Types.

For information on defining and using resources and pools, see Activity Resource Requirements.
