Define Activity Outputs

Activity outputs determine how a transaction leaves an activity and where it goes next. On a decision shape, case text appears as labels on the respective outputs of shapes with decision behavior. To move case text, click and drag it to another location in the diagram. If you want to break the text association with the original output connector line, modify the properties in the Properties dialog box - Outputs page.

By default, the diamond shape has a decision behavior specified and the first line you draw to another activity is labeled No.

Real-time checking (on the View menu) finds unconnected decision shapes and exception cases. iGrafx recommends that you leave Real-Time Checking enabled.

For each procedure below:

  1. Double-click a shape for which you want to create decision output.

  2. In the Properties dialog box, click the Outputs page, then click the Normal tab.

Procedure

Create a decision output

  1. Select Decision in the drop-down list.

  2. Choose a case text option.

    • Choose Other to create custom labels.

    • Click the createmodifytypesbutton.bmp button and enter the information in the Define Types dialog box to create a custom case text type.

  3. Choose a decision type.

  • For Statistical, set percentage. A change to any of the case option percentages changes one of the others to total 100%.

  • For Expression, click the expressionbuildericon00013.bmp button and create a decision expression. You can specify a default path for cases where expression is not deterministic. See Expressions and Activity Output.

Add decision case outcomes

  1. In the Case Text list, select Other.

  2. Click the Add button to add a decision case.

Specify named outputs

  1. Select Named Outputs in the drop-down list.

  2. Choose a Case Text setting.

  3. Select the Conditional check box if paths should only be taken on an expression.

If this check box is clear, all paths are taken as the transaction leaves the activity, which means that the transactions are duplicated.

Specify the first available output option

Choose Available in the drop-down list and click OK.

If the input receiving shape has more than one input, a simulation error occurs.
