Keyboard Shortcuts

Try using these shortcuts to perform functions you use repeatedly in iGrafx:

Navigate

Enter menu navigation mode using only the keyboard

Move backward from one toolbar to another in menu navigation mode

Open the QuickZoom window to zoom and pan

Open, Close, and Save Documents

Place Shapes

To place shapes with keyboard shortcuts, you must first select the shape you will be placing shapes next to. You may then use the commands in the table below.

Task

Shortcut

Place a shape to the right, left, above, or below the selected shape.

Note: shapes may be placed on top of other shapes in some circumstances, though iGrafx will try to prevent placing a new shape on top of the shape you just placed.

Ctrl + <arrow key> (where <arrow key> is the right, left, up, or down arrow key.

Change which shape from the Toolbox toolbar will be placed.

Ctrl + Spacebar

Edit Shapes and Text

Task

Shortcut

Edit text in a shape, swimlane name area, or anywhere in a diagram

Click to select and start typing

Set the font size, color, and orientation for diagram text

Ctrl+D

Format shape fill, line and border, and shadow/3D

Ctrl+Shift+D

Show a shape number on a selected shape

Ctrl+3

Edit shape properties

Alt+Enter

Show the context menu for a shape, after selecting it

Shift+F10

Select Diagram Objects

Select multiple items

Click to select the first item, then Ctrl+click (or Shift+click) on each additional item.

Remove an item from multiple selected items

Ctrl+click or Shift+click

Modify Shape Size

Task

Shortcut

Make a shape straddle swimlanes

Hold the Ctrl key while you click and drag the edge of the shape to stretch it.

Proportionally grow or shrink a shape or graphic

Hold the Shift key while you drag the shape or graphic by its handle.

Add or Modify Properties in the Properties Dialog Box

Use any of these methods to open the Properties dialog box:

Note: If the Properties dialog box is already displayed, or displayed and docked, then simply clicking on (selecting) an object such as a shape, component in the Document Components window, or item in the repository will display its properties. You may use the forward and back buttons on the Properties dialog box to traverse objects you have previously displayed Properties for during your editing session.
