Swimlanes and Resources

iGrafx distinguishes between a swimlane, which is a graphical rectangle that groups a set of activities together on the diagram, and resources, which are divided into organizations and non-organizations. In the Define Resources dialog box, resources that are represented by swimlanes are displayed with a swimlane overlay on the resource icon. By default, during process simulation, activities drawn in the swimlane will acquire resources from the resource the swimlane represents. If the resource is an organization, then resources allocated to the organizations are acquired to perform simulated activities.

Resources can exist without being represented as swimlanes, but swimlanes always represent a resource of the same name.
