Join Inputs

When transactions join, multiple transactions are collected and combined into a single transaction. The remaining single transaction, with attribute information and ID from the head of the queue, and aggregated statistics, enters the activity when the join condition is met.

Joining differs from batching in that the individual transactions are not preserved when they are joined into a single transaction. Collection methods for joining inputs are the same as for batch inputs.

For example, a marketing fulfillment agency receives several boxes of blank disks in the mail. Each box has 100 disks in it. A machine is set up to make promotional disks from the blank disks. Every time 100 disks are done, they are packaged back into the original boxes and sent to the warehouse.

For more information on input collections, see Properties dialog box - Inputs page.

Example: Join by Entire Family

An electronics store receives a television set for repair. The shop labels the parts when the set is disassembled. After repairs are made, the television is reassembled.
