transactions

Transactions are entities, or tokens, that move through the process model. Within iGrafx, transactions move from shape to shape on directed connection lines.

The transaction can be any number of things, such as a loan application in a bank loan process, a component in a manufacturing line, or a customer at a restaurant or bank. In some cases, a transaction represents the same thing throughout the process. In others, the transaction stands for different things at different times. Because the definition is specific to the process being modeled, a transaction’s meaning changes as it is processed.

As transactions flow through the process from shape to shape, they can compete with each other for finite resources. It is this competition for resources and its implications to time and cost that are of interest in most models.
