Phase Lines

Phase lines identify important milestones in a process diagram and provide the visual break for seeing which shapes (and tasks) occur during which segment of the process flow. You can only place phase lines on diagrams containing swimlanes.

Procedure

Insert a phase line

  1. On the Insert menu, choose Phase.

  2. Drag the line, then click to place the phase.

Delete a phase line

Click the phase and press the Delete key.

Format a phase line

  1. Right-click a phase and choose Format Diagram.

  2. In the resulting Format Diagram dialog box, click the Phases tab.

Change phase and phase header line type and width

  1. On the Format menu, choose Diagram and click the Borders and Dividers tab.

  2. Click Phase or Phase Header in the Choose line styles for swimlane elements list.

Label a phase line

Click the phase near the label at the top of the page. When the cursor changes to an I-beam, you can delete the word Phase and replace it with new text.

Add color and patterns to a phase

Right-click the phase and choose Format, then change settings in the resulting Format Phase dialog box.
