Format and Design Appearance of Sheets

Procedure

Format text and cells

  1. Select a cell, row, or column.

  2. On the Sheet menu, choose Format Cells to add colors, change fonts, specify line styles, and more.

Automatically color code cells based on values

  1. Select a cell, row, or column.

  2. On the Sheet menu, choose Format Cells.

  3. On the Cell tab, click the Conditional Formatting option.

  4. Click the Ranges button and enter range values in the Conditional Formatting dialog box.

Create column headings based on shape or graphic text

This task requires that you have a diagram in the document with the sheet you are modifying. If you do not, in the Document Components window, right-click the document, point to New, choose a diagram type, name your component, optionally choose a template, and click OK.

  1. In the sheet, right-click the row selection cell for the top row in the sheet and choose Row Properties.

  2. Click the Name option and click OK.

  3. Right-click a column and choose Column Properties.

  4. Click the Shape or Graphic option, choose an object, and click OK.

You can type the name of a shape in the sheet and the new name appears in the diagram.

Control border appearance with named ranges

You must have created a named range as explained in Named Ranges in Sheet Components before you manage its properties.

  1. On the Sheet menu, point to Named Ranges and choose Manage.

  2. In the Named Ranges dialog box, select a named range, then set the border color and line style.

The sheet highlights the named range selected in the dialog box.
